A white woman was captured on video confronting a Black student over legal street parking outside Huston-Tillotson University, an HBCU in Austin, Texas.
The student, identified by Atlanta Black Star as Huston-Tillotson senior Bri Nunn, recorded the confrontation and posted it online. In the caption accompanying the video, Nunn wrote, “This couple has been harassing the Black students and professors at Huston-Tillotson University.”
According to Nunn, the couple recently bought a home directly across the street from the HBCU, where street parking is legal, but complained about students parking on the public street
She also accused the couple of writing notes and placing them on students’ cars and blocking a Black professor’s car with trash and recycling bins.
“Keep in mind people have been parking here for YEARS with no complaints and the neighbors are friendly and understanding,” Nunn wrote.
In the video, Nunn tells the woman, “It’s legal to park here,” before asking whether she and her husband have been leaving notes on people’s cars.
“Well, it’s like we had a park delivery this morning, and we paid $1.5 million for this house,” the woman responds.
The woman also takes aim at Huston-Tillotson during the exchange, telling Nunn, “Y’all’s graduation rates are at 25%.” However, according to federal education data, Huston-Tillotson’s six-year graduation rate is approximately 34%.
Nunn reminds her that they are in “a historically Black neighborhood.”
The woman loudly shoots back, “This is our neighborhood.”
Nunn continues explaining that the street is legal to park on and asks the woman to stop touching people’s cars.
“I can do whatever I want. It’s my home,” the woman says before telling Nunn, “Get off my property.”
Nunn tells her she is standing on public property, and the woman responds, “Call the cops.”
The argument continues, with Nunn eventually telling the woman’s husband to “get your wife.” He appears to intervene as the exchange continues and acknowledges that parking on the street is legal.
“I can’t wait to put this online so everybody can know how you move into the neighborhood,” Nunn says.
Nunn said she shared the video to alert the university community to the couple's alleged behavior, adding that students were tired of the disrespect.
