White House staffers lined the lawn with roughly 100 mug shots of alleged undocumented immigrants who have been arrested and the alleged crimes they committed, Newsweek reports.
On Monday (April 13), the White House lawn was filled with posters featuring large mug shots of men with the words "Illegal Alien" and their alleged crimes, like "Sexual contact with child" and "Child molestation," in bold letters. Names and exact locations of the individuals weren't included on the posters, which lined "Pebble Beach," an area where television crews typically get live shots in front of the White House.
The move to blast images of alleged undocumented immigrants on the White House lawn comes as President Donald Trump tries to draw attention to his actions he's taken during his first 100 days in office. One of Trump's campaign promises was a crackdown on immigration through mass deportations.
On Monday, Kaelan Dorr, deputy assistant to the president and White House deputy communications director, shared a photo of some of the posters on social media, saying, "White House lawn looks a little different this AM. And they say yard signs don't win elections..."
Monday also marked a White House briefing with Trump's border czar Tom Homan, who claimed that the border is more secure now than it ever has been in his career. Homam noted that the administration has deported 139,000 people so far.
